“Reaching For Big Attainable Goals Creates Purpose And Results In A More Gratifying And Happier Life”
-ANTHONY “TAC” CAINE
Anthony “Tac” Caine
Anthony “Tac” Caine has spent a lifetime reaching goals and looking for a next big challenge. A native of Pittsburgh, Tac was the youngest of five children raised by an immigrant mother and a tough Irish bus driver. He was obsessed with sports as a youth and continued his athletic career playing football at Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned degrees in mathematics and economics in 1979.
In the earliest days of the technology boom, Tac found himself in the right place at the right time working for Hewlett-Packard and Apple Computer. He also founded three tech startups, including co-founding Spyglass Inc, the first internet IPO in 1995. He followed up his financial success in the tech industry with a 20-year career founding and managing hedge fund companies, ultimately managing $1.4 billion. After a black swan event with data indicating market manipulation caused the devastating collapse of his hedge fund companies, Tac directed his energies to establishing new goals, including climbing Mt. Everest.
Philanthropy
While experiencing business success, Tac recognized an obligation to “give back” and devoted time and resources to education philanthropy. In 2011, Tac accomplished a monumental goal of climbing all 54 of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks in one summer season, inspiring him to found Summit54, a 501(c)(3) to provide college opportunity and scholarship funding for at-risk teens. Summit54 expanded to provide summer academic and life enrichment programs for students in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley. To date, Summit54 programs have served and benefitted nearly 10,000 students.
Personal life
More important to Tac than any business, investment, or philanthropy success is his family. He loves his wife, Terri, who is now the driving force behind Summit54’s Summer Advantage program. He also loves and is incredibly proud of his three children, Lauren, Jim, and Annie, and his son-in-law, Matt.
